Personal Property Taxes(2)
|
1. Real Estate Taxes are subject to change by each city and county. Note: Ashland residents pay town real estate and personal property taxes in addition to Hanover County taxes. Chesterfield County residents also pay a utility tax of 15% of the first $10.00 or a maximum of $1.50 per bill.
2. The Personal Property Tax Relief Act ("PPTRA") provides for the relief from a portion of the tangible personal property tax imposed on the first $20,000 of value on passenger cars, trucks and motorcycles used for personal use. (Vehicles with a gross weight of more than 7,500 lbs. or for which more than 50% of the use is for business purposes are not eligible for this tax relief program.) The tax credit percentage varies from locality to locality, i.e., Richmond gave a 70% tax credit in 2006, Chesterfield adopted a 61% tax relief rate, and Henrico’s rate was 65%.
